Our structured 2-year programmes are based Nationwide and offer talented individuals the opportunity to build valuable operational and commercial skills in a fast-moving global logistics environment. You’ll broaden your experience and deepen your knowledge through a rotation of business placements. If you’re ambitious, commercially-driven and eager to show what you can do, this is a great way to launch your career in logistics.

Starting in September with your induction programme, you’ll enjoy a warm welcome to the business and immediately start to build your professional network. Your business placements will be complemented by a dedicated development programme and you’ll be part of the trainee community hub, where you’ll be mentored and coached by colleagues across the business. You must have achieved (or expect to achieve) a 2:2 or higher in your degree, plus five GCSEs Grade A-C (including English & Maths) or equivalent. A full UK driving licence and access to transport are also essential. In return you’ll receive a salary of £25,000 per annum and a generous benefits package.

Contract Logistics

Kuehne + Nagel is one of the world’s leading contract logistics service providers, with more than seven million square metres of warehouse and logistics space under management across more than 65 countries. Our UK team covers four key vertical sectors – Technology, Consumer & Retail, Drinks and Defence Logistics.

We’re looking for people whose energy, fresh ideas, interpersonal and problem solving skills will help us to keep delivering bigger and better solutions.  You’ll support some of our largest contracts, building up your technical and business skills on rotational placements experiencing Inventory Management, Warehouse Operations and Transport Operations. We’ll also look to broaden your skills with possible placements in our Sales, Solutions, Project Management or Integrated Logistics teams.

  • Placements

    We have sites across the UK and operate on behalf of a multitude of different customers. Our graduates rotate their placements across locations to get involved in as much as possible during the two year programme. The first location is determined on offer and we then work with our graduates to determine the placements as the programme progresses. Mobility is therefore very important to get the most from your programme.

  • 24/7

    Logistics isn’t a 9 to 5 job. We operate 24/7, all year round on behalf of our customers to make sure that stores are stocked, restaurants are running, drinks are flowing and much more. You should expect that some of your placements will include shift work as this will allow you to experience the full operational service that we provide.

  • Part of the team

    You’ll be a key part of our team and all of our graduates are given real roles with responsibility to deliver our customers’ requirements. Our graduates get involved in leading shifts, meeting the customer, analysing resource requirements, transport planning, rolling out continuous improvement projects and much, much more.

International Freight Forwarding

Kuehne + Nagel is one of the world’s leading providers of premium, fully integrated supply chain solutions. We have twelve International Forwarding offices across a number of locations within the UK: Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Dagenham, Dartford, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Uxbridge.

We’re passionate about improving our services, building our market position and providing a great environment to develop skills in both operational and people management. You’ll learn how to establish strong customer relationships and develop a detailed understanding of our global import and export operations. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Airfreight

    We’re the second largest airfreight forwarder. Handling over 1.1 million tons of customer products annually, we offer a full range of air logistics solutions backed up by ground-breaking information management systems. You’ll undertake four rotational placements working within some of our largest contracts across the Pharmaceuticals, Aerospace and Perishables industries, learning all about transport & warehousing management and import & export airfreight. This is a fast-moving, 24/7 environment requiring specialist skills and expert handling. We’re looking for graduates with the enthusiasm and ideas to drive our business forward.

  • Seafreight

    We’re the number one global seafreight operator, and the UK is one of the cornerstones of our Global Sea Logistics Product, accounting for almost 20% of the overall Kuehne + Nagel Seafreight volume. We deliver highly flexible services through partnerships with leading ocean carriers and these well-established relationships guarantee capacity and the ability to adapt to growing trade volumes, quickly and efficiently. You’ll join a team of over 7,500 seafreight specialists working across the world. During your programme you’ll be involved in the full range of business, sales and customer operations as you grow to deliver high-quality, tailored solutions in a demanding and fast-moving global environment.

  • International Road Logistics

    We provide European road transport services to over 5,000 customers, delivering in excess of 1 million consignments annually. Providing network and specialist solutions our service portfolio includes International groupage and full loads, Specialist distributions for the High tech & healthcare sector, Exhibition management and Hotel Logistics. You’ll undertake four rotational placements offering operational and commercial experience covering all aspects of our services including International Trailer Operations, Customer Sales, Central Support and Specialised Networks. You will also work on a range of governance, process management and continuous improvement projects.

    Location: Rotational Placements across the UK (typically between Birmingham & Nottingham)

Corporate Functions

Our front-line business units depend on the expert advice and support of a wide range of corporate functions. These specialist teams help us to serve our customers and drive our business forward. They also offer an exceptionally stimulating and rewarding place to launch and develop a professional career. Each programme includes rotational placements across the UK so candidates must be fully mobile to undertake the roles below.

  • Finance

    Kuehne + Nagel UK Finance provides the financial framework which controls and supports business development, growth, profitability and transparency across the Company’s operations.

    Our two year programme will see you rotate around the key areas of the finance function, developing a comprehensive understanding of these areas, and building skills, both financial and softer skills such as teamwork, time management and customer relationship management. Your time will be split between central finance teams, and experience with our local finance controlling teams in our Contract Logistics or International Freight Forwarding divisions, supporting their financial management accounting, reporting and customer relationships.

    You should have strong numeracy skills and experience of handling large amounts of data in spreadsheet applications. Strong interpersonal skills are also required as well as the ability to present data using Microsoft Powerpoint.

  • HR

    Our HR Business Partners and Specialist teams such as Resourcing, Development and Reward support the strategy and growth of our business through the attraction, engagement and development of our people. We help create the culture and values which underpin our business success. On our HR Graduate Programme your development will be tailored to ensure that you gain a broad understanding of the HR function and how we add value to the business operations and delivery to our customers. Rotating around the different HR areas you’ll be working closely with the business during your placements to understand and support their strategy and objectives.

  • IT

    Although UK based, we’re very much part of a global IT team. We work actively with colleagues worldwide to ensure that IT adds real commercial value, delivering innovative solutions with the functionality and flexibility to meet the needs of a fast-moving business and growing international business.

    As a graduate trainee in the IT team we’ll support your development and understanding of each of our departments and the interactions we have both internally and externally with the business. Through rotational placements you’ll experience the wide and varied services offered and delivered by our IT Solutions teams.

    Our programme will provide an introduction to the role that Business Systems play in Supply Chain Logistics.  It’s ideal for candidates interested in delivering business strategic initiatives through the design, planning and implementation of IT solutions in a rapidly evolving environment.

Integrated Logistics

Integrated Logistics at Kuehne + Nagel both simplifies the supply chain process and reduces cost for clients, whilst still providing the great service we are known for. By designing, implementing and managing integrated end-to-end supply chain solutions for our customers across all logistics modes (air, sea, overland, warehousing) anywhere in the world, we put our customer’s supply chain in the middle of the service offering.

The market demand for integrated end-to-end solutions is growing fast and Integrated Logistics is a core strategic focus and key investment area for our UK business. Through rotational placements in operations, solutions, implementation and business management you’ll be part of an exciting, demanding, growing and truly global supply chain.

  • Solution Development

    Solution Development (SD) is responsible for designing efficient integrated end-to-end supply chain solutions for our customers with a service-oriented and quantitative value proposition. This proposition is deployed through an assessment of our customer’s existing network, which highlights disconnects, pain points and inefficiencies. We then propose a future model, overcoming the current issues with a Control Tower solution and all its added value. The three specific SD services are “Response Management”, “Solutions Consulting” and “Solutions Improvement”, which are all embedded in a customer engagement cycle.

  • Implementation Management

    Implementation Management (IM) brings a designed solution to reality and therefore transfers our customers’ requirements into a proven logistics concept. A professional IM is a key element to achieving sustained success for our customers. For each project the implementation approach will be determined individually according to customer and solution requirements following a standard implementation methodology, tools and processes.

  • Business Management

    Business Management (BM) is responsible for directing the account and client relationship. This includes managing the client’s contract, all client related services and commercial elements, including the client P/L. The main objectives are to ensure operational and financial performance to achieve high customer loyalty and satisfaction in combination with the profitable growth of the account.

  • Logistics Control Centre Operations

    The Logistics Control Centre (LCC) Operation is our operational hub for all customer solutions. All day-to-day management of contracts is carried out here as we drive sustainable operational excellence and cost leadership for our customers. The main services are order management, transport planning, visibility & even monitoring as well as freight audit & settlement across the integrated end-to-end supply chain of each customer. All these services are standardized across an infrastructure of seven Control Towers across the world, including Birmingham in the UK.
